Two Left Feet, 2021.
I made Two Left Feet while in residence at ChaNorth in Pine Plains, NY in 2021. At the time I was living and working in Maine as an adjunct professor and had been collecting e-waste from the different universities where I was working. The machine in Two Left Feet is a Model 75 Burrell Wrist Action Shaker, used to shake chemical solutions in laboratories. This model provides an oscillation rate of 385 shakes per minute. While I could not find an exact manufacture date, Burrell started manufacturing wrist action shakers in the 1940s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This machine’s manufacture was discontinued and replaced by a newer version. The machine in Two Left Feet was discarded by the university where I was teaching because it was no longer used by any of the labs even though it is fully functional.
Two Left Feet was exhibited most recently at Vox Populi’s 19th annual juried exhibition, VOX XIX, curated by by Evan / Eve Greensweig and Natalie Hijinx in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2024. Previously, it was exhibited in Re-Imaging Rural, curated by Peter Fulop at 1 Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, New York in the summer of 2022. Two works from the Two Left Feet series were exhibited in Paroxysm, curated by Alison Pirie, at Westbeth Gallery in Manhattan, NY in the winter of 2023.
