A Machine That Feeds Itself

This project features a robotic arm that will pick up silicone balls and add them to its greater structure. The structure will expand with the addition of the balls, so it will grow as the arm continues to feed itself. The arm will move forward and backward, up and down, and the “hand” will open and close. It will not move side to side, and will be able to drop the balls close to itself into the larger sculpture. This project concept came out of an interest in machine learning. I am thinking about each silicone cube as abstracted data. Dimensions variable, but will be around 2 feet by 2 feet and the expansion will be towards the floor on the wall of a pedestal. As of now, each piece is lasercut from a MeArm template, but I am imagining a 3-d printed frame for the final piece.
